Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a type of bodywork often referred to as instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (I.A.S.T.M.) It uses tools to bring toxins out of the fascia and muscle back up into the circulatory system and lymphatic system, to be flushed out of your body by drinking plenty of water. What are toxins? Toxins is a term used to describe a build up of fluids in an area. Toxins can metabolic wastes (like lactic acid, which is naturally produced by our muscles), catabolic waste, or digestive waste (chemical components injested through our diet that our body has not been able to process or flush out).

Gua Sha can help break up adhesions ("knots") and scar tissue that may form due to injury or from a surgery. Very similar to Graston, many massage therapists, acupuncturist and other holistic health care practitioners incorporate Gua Sha into treatment sessions when necessary.
